Event Information

Are you high school or college student or know a student interested in learning more about the medical field? The Hughston Foundation, Three Rivers AHEC, Columbus Technical College and Columbus State University (CSU) are holding the fourth annual “Scrubs Camp” this summer. Due to the overwhelming response to last three years camps, this year we are offering it twice in June and July of 2020. The four-day camps are open to rising high-school freshmen through college sophomores who are interested in the medical field, and especially for those who are interested in the fields that specialize in sports medicine. Sixty seats are available for each camp and housing is available through CSU for $25 a day per person, and transportation to and from the dorm will not be provided.

All students receive their own scrub top; which many wear to camp each day. In addition to tours of multiple facilities, there are many hands-on experiences related to the different medical fields. This is terrific forum for students to experience what medical writing and medical illustration; radiology; a surgical nurse and a surgical technologist; a medical resident; a physician assistant; a physical therapist; and someone from the radiology departments can offer. Students will be exposed to anatomy through dissection and arthroscopy equipment on a cadaver specimen and watch a surgery videos.

For those students in the Healthcare Science Sports Medicine pathway, this is an especially good opportunity, but it also a great opportunity for anyone trying to decide what area of healthcare they might want to go into.

Registration will go live in January of 2020. Early registration deadline is April 15th (cost $200). Final deadline is May 29th (cost $250)
