Treating your pain

You depend on your feet and ankles to stay active, so you need to keep them healthy. Unless you have an injury or condition, you should not have any foot pain. If you do have pain, locate the exact position and note the source. If the pain persists more than a few days, contact a Hughston foot and ankle physician.

Common injuries we treat

A sprained ankle is a common injury. Your ankle may turn inward from a jump, fall, or step causing one or more of the outer tendons to stretch or tear. Initial treatment includes rest, ice, compression, and elevation above the heart. If pain and swelling persist more than two days, additional treatment may be needed. What has happened to my toes?

Hammertoes are caused by a muscle imbalance affecting the tendons and joints of the toes, pulling the toes out of alignment. Genetics, injury, arthritis, or tight shoes may be responsible. If hammertoes are flexible and non-surgical measures fail to relieve pain, the toe can simply be surgically repositioned.
